Ebook About “Bear Grylls is a veritable superhero….The former UK Special Forces paratrooper has braved the world’s harshest environments.” —Hampton Sides, Outside Magazine“Bear Grylls is one tough, crazy dude.” —Washington PostTHE THRILLING #1-BESTSELLING MEMOIR BY THE ADVENTURE LEGEND AND STAR OF NBC'S RUNNING WILD WITH BEAR GRYLLS Bear Grylls has always sought the ultimate in adventure. Growing up on a remote island off of Britain's windswept coast, he was taught by his father to sail and climb at an early age. Inevitably, it wasn't long before the young explorer was sneaking out to lead all-night climbing expeditions. As a teenager at Eton College, Bear found his identity and purpose through both mountaineering and martial arts. These passions led him into the foothills of the mighty Himalayas and to a karate grandmaster's remote training camp in Japan, an experience that soon helped him earn a second-degree black belt. Returning home, he embarked upon the notoriously grueling selection course for the British Special Forces to join the elite Special Air Service unit 21 SAS—a journey that would push him to the very limits of physical and mental endurance. Then, disaster. Bear broke his back in three places in a horrific free-fall parachuting accident in Africa. It was touch and go whether he would walk again, according to doctors. However, only eighteen months later, a twenty-three-year-old Bear became one of the youngest climbers to scale Mount Everest, the world's highest summit. But this was just the beginning of his many extraordinary adventures. . . .Known and admired by millions as the star of Man vs. Wild, Bear Grylls has survived where few would dare to go. Now, for the first time, Bear tells the story of his action-packed life. Gripping, moving, and wildly exhilarating, Mud, Sweat, and Tears is a must-read for adrenaline junkies and armchair explorers alike.Book Mud, Sweat, and Tears: The Autobiography Review :
Bear Grylls is a household name due to his work on TV, primarily the show Man vs. Wild. However, his story is not that of just a TV presenter - it’s a curious combination of privilege and hardship, from his education at the world famous Eton College to his rather humble beginnings as a penniless karate instructor. He has suffered mightily in his years, but has also triumphed, and this is his story - one of determination, enthusiasm, and faith.Mud, Sweat, and Tears isn’t necessarily the most well-written autobiography in existence, but it is easy to read, chopped into a hundred different stories covering his family, his upbringing, his grueling entrance into the UK’s Special Air Service and subsequent medical retirement following a skydiving injury that nearly left him paralyzed for life. Then on, to Mount Everest, his wife, and finally his burgeoning TV career. What Grylls lacks in eloquence he makes up for in spades with genuinely interesting, funny, charming, heartbreaking, and unrelenting stories. He once appeared in a “Most Interesting Man in the World” Dos Equis commercial as a special adviser, but honestly he is probably the closest you can get to the Most Interesting Man in the World in real life.Astonishingly, though, the one aspect of his life that shines through more than any other is just how humble and determined he is. He has had his share of lucky breaks, but also extreme adversity. While he certainly has enjoyed privileges, he’s also put in the work - and been justly rewarded. The book is well worth a read if for no other reason than to be inspired by the vision of hard work and relentless optimism. I don't usually write a review, but felt compelled being such a big fan of Bear's (you find out in the book that his real name is Edward!). Anyway, this is a very motivational life story about grit, determination, and a man who lives life on the edge. The part explaining how he climbed Mount Everest after coming back from breaking his back in the SAS (British's Special Forces) is especially fascinating. Don't buy into all of the haters out there who claim that Bear is a fake - while many of his "survival" techniques on his MvW show are for entertainment value & shock factor alone, Bear is the real deal and his story proves firsthand just how tough he is, mentally and physically. Keep inspiring people and challenging them to become stronger versions of themselves!
